Baby growing update: 14 weeks

Well, I keep thinking that I should start taking the customary belly shots that it seems like every other pregnant woman takes every few weeks, but if I took them and posted them they wouldn't be very exciting, because my belly is still not showing at all. And I mean not at all. I still fit comfortably into all my usual clothes, and maybe some people are starting to think I'm just pretending to be pregnant. :-) Both Emily and Kat were very disappointed that there was no baby bump to see on our trip to Missouri.

Next Monday is my second baby doctor visit, and this one should be pretty uneventful, just with some test results and monitoring to make sure everything's still normal and healthy. Scott isn't going to this one with me, but he'll be at the 20-week appointment where we'll have our first ultrasound, but not for the purposes of finding out if it's a boy or a girl! We're still set on waiting until delivery to find out. And Scott is still referring to my belly as Baby Sage, so if it's a boy he's going to have to really make it up to him.

I still haven't had any cravings out of the ordinary, but I do seem to get hungrier in the mornings, sometimes eating three small breakfasts before lunch time. Most of the time they consist of Oatmeal Squares, granola with yogurt and blueberries, whole wheat English muffins or oatmeal. Oatmeal Squares are also still my preferred snack of choice when I'm on the road and know I'll probably get hungry.

Last night I made my favorite Salmon Cakes with Creamy Ginger Sesame Sauce - the recipe I make just so I can have the sauce, because it's so good. What did I do but break the glass container I was putting it in for storage, so I had to throw the whole batch of sauce away. :-( It was a very sad thing, and I don't have any more plain yogurt at the moment to make more. I think a special trip to Safeway is in order so I can make more to eat with the rest of the cakes. The sauce just has plain yogurt - I used Greek, a little bit of mayo - I use the kind with olive oil in it, some ground ginger, sesame oil and soy sauce. Here's the link to the recipe. You should make it. And, the *experts* say that eating salmon during pregnancy will make your baby smarter, especially by the time he hits kindergarten.

So that's all I have to report at this point - uneventfulness. The day we left for Missouri my baby room rug was delivered, and I love it. It's still rolled up in the plastic, but the colors are perfect. I'm planning to stick around the house this weekend to get some things done, and getting the rug downstairs and unrolled is on the list, as are a bunch of other things, like the Baby Ehlers project, flower seed-starting, refrigerator shopping, and all kinds of good things. I wish there were more than two days in a weekend!

  1. Looking back at my pictures, I didn't really have a bump until around 20 weeks - and even then it was a while until people who didn't know I was pregnant could tell. Even if you wait a few more weeks to start taking them, it is fun to look back at the pictures and see how much you've really grown! And take one before you start showing so you have a "baseline" to look back on and wonder if your belly was ever that size ;-)
